PostNL again achieves top 3 position as one of the world’s most sustainable companies in transport and logistics (DJSI)

The Hague, the Netherlands, 11 December 2023 – PostNL has retained its top 3 position among the world’s most sustainable transport and logistics companies, as reported by S&P Global on its Dow Jones Sustainability Index. PostNL has held a firm footing in the top 10 of most sustainable companies in its sector for many years, and this year again scores highest in its sector on Environment & Climate.

Earlier in the year, PostNL received recognition from Ecovadis in the shape of a Gold certificate. Both DJSI’s and Ecovadis’s recognition of its efforts serve to encourage PostNL to continue to make its activities more sustainable. As Herna Verhagen, PostNL’s CEO, commented: “I’m incredibly proud that the Dow Jones Sustainability Index has had us pegged as among the most sustainable companies for years. Our commitment to social responsibility, focusing on sustainability for people, planet and society, is one of our key drivers and a responsibility that we take very seriously indeed. We note that standards are growing increasingly rigorous and take this independent rating as a sign that we’re on the right track to creating an even more sustainable organisation.”

Sector leader in Environment & Climate

PostNL has been working on reducing its environmental footprint and promoting a more sustainable society for many years. It invests in electric vehicles and cleaner fuels, optimises routes, combines goods flows and minimises air in packaging. Energy used at its sorting centres is derived from fully sustainable sources, i.e. wind and solar. And PostNL is joining forces with outside parties to develop more sustainable business models, such as reusable packaging and recommerce solutions. It also innovates by providing access to more sustainable delivery options, such as parcel and letter lockers in public spaces as well as smaller lockers for parcel and letter deliveries to people’s homes.

Social arena

PostNL aims to be a company that people like to work at, with and for, and operates at the heart of society. It is committed to gender equality and ensures that all people receive the same pay for the same job, through collective labour agreements (CLAs) among other ways. It is also one of the first companies to offer paid transition leave in its CLA. This year, PostNL also scored higher on Human Rights and  Health & Safety, thanks in part to measures it has implemented, such as independent audits. In addition, it has zero tolerance policies in place for discrimination in the workplace, alongside a clearly defined escalation process for reporting incidents.
