PostNL achieves highest score for leading commitment to climate change

The Hague, 8 December 2020 - PostNL receives recognition for leadership in sustainable entrepreneurship from the international not-for-profit environmental charity CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) in the form of a listing on the prestigious A List for reducing CO2 emissions and mitigating climate change. This places PostNL among a select group of high-performing companies out of over 5,800 that have been assessed. The CDP believes that PostNL is a global pioneer in environmental ambition, action and transparency because important demonstrable steps are being taken in the area of climate change.

Herna Verhagen, PostNL CEO, says: ‘I am proud of the high rating because it shows that our ongoing efforts to make our day-to-day operations even more sustainable are bearing fruit. We take our responsibility very seriously, and we are making progress in various areas. Transparency is an important step in order to bring about effective action and the high rating is a recognition of our sustainability policy and the commitment of our employees and partners.’

Support for SBTi initiative and campaign

PostNL has set ambitious long-term targets in order to further reduce CO2 emissions and make a concrete contribution to the agreements set out in the Paris climate agreement. For example, the target is for all parcel and mail deliveries in the Benelux to be emission-free in the last mile by 2030, with emission-free delivery in 25 town and city centres by 2025 as an intermediate step. PostNL coordinates CO2 emission reduction targets with the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi).

SBTi has asked the business community to support the ‘Business Ambition for 1.5°C’ initiative and campaign. PostNL is participating in this. In doing so, we promise to help limit global warming to 1.5°C. To this end, we want to work together with our partners to make air transport more sustainable, for example.
