Gold stamp to celebrate Miffy’s 65th birthday

The Hague, 21 June 2020 – This year is all about Miffy’s 65th birthday, the most famous and popular of all of the characters from Dick Bruna’s books. To celebrate this special anniversary, PostNL is publishing a unique, limited edition gold stamp.

24-carat

The 24-carat gold stamp has been manufactured in a print run of just 1,000 items. PostNL will supply the stamp with a special storage box bearing Miffy’s official 65th birthday logo. Later this year, more stamp sheets will be published paying tribute to Miffy and her family and friends.

The image of Miffy on the gold personal stamp is derived from the logo for Miffy’s 65th birthday. The logo was developed to highlight Miffy’s long-term success - three generations have now grown up with Miffy. Over the past 65 years, Miffy has conquered the world, featuring as the main character in countless children’s picture books. The white bunny can be seen on television, at the cinema and in the theatre.

Miffy was ‘born’ in 1955 when Dick Bruna (1927-2017) started telling stories about a white rabbit before this eldest son went to sleep. The reason behind Miffy’s huge popularity is that many children can identify with her and her adventures. She is uncomplicated, innocent, positive and open to new experiences.

Festivities

Due to the coronavirus, all public events relating to Miffy’s 65th birthday have been cancelled. However, there are lots of special products for sale. For bookshops, a special cake-shaped book carousel has been produced, with space for 48 Miffy books. In October, a new musical about Miffy will be touring the country. From 20 June to 20 September 2020, the Centraal Museum will host the exhibition ‘Miffy, a source of inspiration for 65 years', based on an international fashion and design project.
