The Hague, 8 December 2025 – During the holiday season, PostNL expects once again to deliver millions of Christmas cards. In this period, more than ten times the usual amount of consumer mail is processed. To ensure all these cards are delivered on time, PostNL is taking extra measures for the smooth delivery of Christmas cards. This year, Christmas cards can also be handed over to Picnic couriers.
Maurice Unck, Director of Mail at PostNL: “The December period is a time when many people pay extra attention to one another. A Christmas card is a small, tangible gesture with great meaning: mail connects. All of our 22,000 postal deliverers are dedicating themselves with great commitment these weeks to deliver those personal wishes to family and friends.”
PostNL is taking extra measures to ensure the flow of Christmas cards is delivered with care. Therefore, an extra delivery day is scheduled for Monday, 22 December, and mailboxes will be emptied more frequently during the weekend. In addition, capacity at the sorting centers will be increased with extra staff.
- Send your Christmas card on time. To ensure Christmas cards arrive on time, it is advisable to post them early.
- Choose cards of sufficient size. Cards smaller than 14 x 9 centimeters are more difficult to sort.
- Write a clear and complete address. A festive card can certainly be creative, but a clearly legible address with the correct postal code and house number is essential.
- Make sure the envelope is properly sealed. This keeps the card neatly inside the envelope during sorting.
- Make your Christmas card extra festive with a special Efteling December stamp. With this fairy-tale designed stamp, you send your wishes in style and at a reduced rate.
To make sending Christmas cards even easier, people can hand their Christmas cards to the courier from online supermarket Picnic in December. The Christmas cards will then be handed over to PostNL for processing and delivery. This collaboration builds on the existing relationship between the two companies, who also jointly sponsor the cycling team Picnic PostNL.
This year, the December stamps are once again available. They have been designed in collaboration with Efteling and bring a recognizable, fairy-tale atmosphere to every card. The December rate is € 1.21 per stamp, 10 cents cheaper than the regular letter mail rate. This special rate applies from 10 November 2025 through 3 January 2026.
