PostNL to ask court in The Hague to stop strikes in December

The Hague - PostNL will file a petition at the court in The Hague for an injunction to stop FNV, a union, to organise strikes that could hamper service in peak season. PostNL has chosen this legal course of action to protect clients, consumers and employees from any negative impact in the Holiday season, which is the busiest moment of the year.

Strikes in the peak season could lead to disproportionate damage and risks. Therefore, PostNL will file a petition at the court in The Hague for an injunction to prevent union action from taking place in the next three weeks.

Everyone counts on PostNL to deliver Christmas cards and presents in time. Each day, PostNL delivers millions of letters, Christmas cards and parcels all across the country. Preparations for this peak season have started months ago. By choosing this moment to try to organise a strike, FNV attacks the interests of our clients, the company and its employees, who it claims to represent.

The three other unions at the table in the PostNL CLA negotiations are of the opinion that the FNV actions are premature, as negotiations have only just begun. Discussions with all four unions , including FNV, have resumed today, are progressing well, and will continue tomorrow. Also in that light, PostNL is of the view that the FNV actions should be stopped.
